RAANDESK GALLERY OF ART TO SHOW AT BRIDGE ART FAIR
Gallery Recognized for Cutting Edge Approach, Collection of Emerging Artists
[New York, NY] - Raandesk® Gallery of Art, an online resource of contemporary art in a variety of media, is pleased to announce participation in the 2008 Bridge Art Fair March 27-30, at the Waterfront, located at 222 12th Avenue, in the northern section of Manhattan's Chelsea gallery district. Bridge is an international event concurrent with New York's celebrated Armory Show and will feature more than 60 exhibitors from around the world.
Known for spectacular shows of emerging contemporary art in Chicago, London, and Miami, Bridge Art Fair 08 is the premiere edition for New York. Much like Raandesk Gallery, Bridge is known for its use of non-traditional spaces that are artfully transformed into temporary, contemporary art venues. Bridge New York will be held at the Waterfront building, widely recognized as "The Tunnel," a 23,000-square-foot structure that was once home to the famous Tunnel nightclub, particularly suited to Bridge's, and Raandesk's cutting-edge approach.
This is Raandesk Gallery's first appearance in the Bridge Art Fair, but the second time the gallery has participated in an international art show, first appearing at Photo San Francisco in October 2006. Selected from a highly competitive field of contemporary art galleries from across the globe, Raandesk is one of only eight New York City-based galleries selected to participate.
"I'm thrilled that Raandesk is going to show at Bridge, where my artists will be exposed to thousands of new collectors from around the globe. Participation affirms that the gallery is standing out and is making a mark for the art that I'm showing," commented gallery founder and director Jessica L. Porter. "Bridge is a great show that's very much in line with the Raandesk philosophy of emerging talent, alternative venues, and for creating valuable opportunities, so to be in this show is very exciting."

Raandesk will feature new work by seven artists at Bridge, including the premier of newly added Slovenian artist Matej Sitar, with his new Tsuriai series of color photographs produced after a recent visit to Japan. Bridge participating artists include:
•· Lisa Beckner is an artist with uniquely crafted wall sculptures made of corn meal, starch and sugars. The media is shaped into small scaled clothing and child-like figures and is baked, like a fine pastry to create the whimsical pieces.
- Photorealist oil painter Jason Bryant captures cinematic visions and snapshots of life through large-scale cropped portraits of celebrity faces, clothing and movie stills where subjects are depersonalized to spotlight dramatic moments in everyday life.
- Washington, DC-based Jeff Huntington paints intensely vivid and detailed portraits, images of orchids and still life arrangements in oil with a hint of surrealism and oddity, fully removed from discernible context.
- Matt Kern's work utilizes an old-school Polaroid format camera to create collage assemblages with many layers of images, text, drawings and other elements embedded in wax. The result is a richly textured surface that reveals more with each inspection.
- Eric Lopresti takes a bird's eye view of realist landscapes and pairs them with an abstracted detail of the view from down below. His pieces are finely executed paintings in acrylic and oil on linen, with dynamic and colorful perspectives.
- Matej Sitar is a Slovenian photographer who captures a range of subject matter, from people to still life and street scenes. His diptychs are combinations of images that compliment and connect to one another through color, line, shape and form.
- Anna Unierzyski handcrafts highly sculptural functional art / furniture pieces in unique geometric forms. Her natural wood finishes are touched with a bit of color for clean and interesting, contemporary look.
