RAANDESK CELEBRATES THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Innovation Takes Center Stage

February 11, 2009—The Raandesk Gallery of Art celebrates its third birthday this Thursday as it presents the photo exhibition The Plaza by Laura Salierno at Glenn Gale Gallery.

Over the past three years, the online gallery has grown into a thriving art community, representing more than two dozen emerging artists from the United States, Europe and Asia. The gallery showcases all work online and has exhibits at different venues in New York, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.

Jessica L. Porter, the gallery’s founder and director, knows the coming years pose a new host of challenges, but she remains confident in the gallery’s resilience.

I started Raandesk with the goal of making original art accessible and affordable, and we have made great strides in that direction, and in supporting emerging collectors and artists,” she says. “Today’s economy is obviously going to hinder many people from buying art, but I think that through programs and collaborations, galleries can maintain a strong presence and successful businesses. But it’s going to take creativity.”

To that end, Raandesk has launched Art2Gift , a collection that includes dozens of pieces of original art—each framed, signed and easy to transport. Prices range from $35-$500, making them ideal for this economic environment.

If you don’t have to cut out something you love, why would you?” Jessica asks. “Art2Gift allows people to buy art but remain fiscally responsible.”

Jessica has partnered with Glenn Gale Gallery to show The Plaza series, a collection of photos meant to capture the sense of loss many people felt when the storied hotel was closed to the public. The exhibit also documents the demolition, with pictures of rooms in different stages of disrepair. It will be on display at the gallery until May.

The reception is on Thursday, February 12 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at 8 E. 36th Street, 3rd Floor and media are welcome to attend. Contact Lisa Roth at lisa@lisarothpr.com or 917.887.9317 for more information.
